Vermont Association for Justice stands for the Rule of Law, the Constitution, and the Peaceful Expression of Political Opinion. Regardless of one’s political view, what happened in our Capitol on Wednesday was unacceptable and criminal. There were heroes that day, but there is also a stain upon our reputation as the shining example of LIBERTY, JUSTICE, FREEDOM and DEMOCRACY.
Thank you to those who defended the safety of our representatives. Thank you for the resolve of Republicans and Democrats who did their jobs while under siege. Thank you for the speeches (the “most important” of his life by Mitch McConnell) denouncing what happened. Those who attacked, and those who incited the attack, and those who aided and abetted in the attack need to be held accountable.
Lessons are to be learned. Inappropriate words, misinformation, and our failure to require THE TRUTH and HONORABLE BEHAVIOR can result in tragedy.
What a President said long ago seems important to remember now:
“Don’t interfere with anything in the Constitution. That must be maintained, for it is the only safeguard of our liberties.” - Abraham Lincoln
