BYLAWS
Article I
Name and Objectives. The name of this Association shall be the Vermont Association for Justice (hereafter "Association"). This is a nonprofit educational Association whose objectives shall be to uphold and defend the Constitutions of the United States and the State of Vermont; to promote and advance the administration of justice for the public good and trial by jury; to train in all fields and phases of advocacy; to advance the cause of those who are injured in person or property and who must seek redress therefore; and to resist the undue and constant efforts of others to curtail the rights of such injured persons.
Article II
Membership.
A. Regular Members. (amended 3.16.26)
(1) Regular membership is limited to lawyers, licensed to practice before the Vermont Supreme Court, who support the purposes and mission of VTAJ, and who:
(a) represent or seek to represent clients whose interests align with the purposes and mission of VTAJ, including but not limited to the following:
i. plaintiffs in personal injury and/or civil rights matters;
ii. employees in employment matters;
iii. claimants in workers’ compensation and/or social security benefit matters;
iv. consumers in consumer protection matters;
v. accused individuals or defendants in criminal defense matters; and
vi. individuals in family law matters.
(b) do not represent insurance companies and are not regularly retained or paid by insurance companies, corporations, self-insured entities, risk pools, or local, state, or federal government agencies (referred collectively hereafter as “defense attorneys”) in the defense of the types of civil or administrative matters listed in subsections (a)(i) to (iv) above, or the prosecution in criminal matters, or work in a firm with defense attorneys or defense paralegals, except as set forth in section (2) below.
